  • Sharebar

Bright college days, O’ carefree days that fly…

I don’t know about the rest of you, but I love learning new stuff.  There’s an entire universe out there, with so much stuff that you can try to pack into your brain, and it’s so much fun to try to see how close you can get to filling it up.

Sure, you could just go and pick up a book and devour it, letting your mind nom the hell out of it.  There’s a plethora of great shows out there, channels devoted to nothing but the expansion of your knowledge.  But according to society, that which shows the pinacle of patience and learning are those hallowed institutions, college.

But what if you don’t care about that piece of paper claiming itself “Diploma?”  You can audit classes.  This is a great way to take a class and not have to worry about grades, and they’re generally cheaper than taking classes.  And if you’re on a budget, but you still want to learn stuff, this is a great route.

And if your budget places constraints both on money and time, online is your best bet.  There’s programs out there that put a ton of information out there.  The Massachussets Institute of Technology offers a bunch of classes that you can take, in their Open Courseware project (http://ocw.mit.edu/index.htm).  These include papers and lectures posted online that you can peruse at your leisure.  No cost, no grades, just awesomeness from one of the best schools on the planet.

Stanford is offering a class this October specifically on artificial intelligence as they test their online delivery services as well as their testing programs.  This class is this fall, and you can still sign up, but sign up soon. (http://www.ai-class.com/)

iTunes University has a ton of various class visuals available.  Most are good chunklets that you can take on the go on your various devices. (http://www.apple.com/education/itunes-u/)

And lastly, here’s a big-ass list of various courses that are available. (http://www.openculture.com/freeonlinecourses)

Now, go forth and learn some new stuff, broaden your horizons, and bring more wonder to your life by discovering that which you don’t know.

If anyone needs me, I’ll be in my lab.  Can someone check to see if the cat is up there?
