PS3 Vs British Prisons

By Joe

Ok, first thing’s first. Why the hell would prisoners in England get PS3’s? You’re telling me that I could break the law over there, and the thought of them giving me one to play while I toil away the hours before I’m released playing…oh…wait. That’s right. Being stuck with the PS3 is cruel and unusual punishment.

There’s good reason for this, they say. It’s the online capabilities and the wifi connection to the PSP as well. Just think. The British government is worried that criminals would be plotting via the PS3. And they’re taking it as a serious threat.

I’d totally plan my prison break on one of those things. The box itself would be an awesome weapon!

Important decisions

So I was watching Return of The Jedi as we at GvL are prone to doing, and I came across an interesting philosophical question. One day, I will have children of the age of watching The Saga. At that time, in what order shall I show them? 4,5,6,1,2,3 or 1,2,3,4,5,6? Don’t misunderstand, 4,5, and 6 are clearly the BETTER but that doesn’t mean they should go first for optimal viewing. there are a great many points in 4,5 and 6 that have added importance due to the prequal trilogy. (which, it could be argued, is the only reason for it’s existence.) On the other hand, the legendary revelation at the end of 5 is ONLY a revelation if the films are viewed in the order that they were created. Please, good sirs, aid me in this, the great question of our time.

Mark of The Succubus (volume 2) by Ashly Raiti & Irene

By Joe

Mark of The Succubus is a Rising Stars of Manga
contest winner. Rising Stars of Manga is a contest
held by American manga publisher Tokyo Pop.
It’s easy to see why this won, fresh drawing style and
troubled romance. Who could ask for anything more?
Love is hard enough in high school. Never mind if you
are a succubus. Mauve is an adorable little succubus
who’s fallen for her mark.
Aiden is an adorable guitar playing emo boy who’s
clueless about love or Mauve’s feelings.
Devin is Aiden’s best friend, a conspiracy theorist
that The Question, of DC Comics, would find a worthy
adversary.
What happens when Devin tracks a demon and Mauve tells
Aiden her secret?
This Manga is funny and well written, with plenty of plot
twists to keep the pages turning. Very cute and sweet.
Definately a girl’s manga, but boys, you might enjoy
the demons! Fans of romantic comedies will love this
one.

Podcast Buzz: The Dead Guy Hippie Shit Show

The Dead Guy Hippy Show

Being a podcaster myself I felt this was important
column to add to Geek Vs Life. Podcasts are shows
produced by people, often like a radio show.
Think ‘Zines for the airwaves. Podcasts are widely
popularized by iTunes and iPod users. It’s a whole
section of free content you can download in the iTunes
store and elsewhere.
For my first spotlight I chose The Dead Guy Hippie
Shit show hosted by Elijah Blue. I love Elijah, he’s a
bigger music geek than me. I can almost imagine stacks
of CDs and vinyl littered through his apartment.
J’adore! (Sorry, he’d be my ideal radio show co-host.)
His themes are wide and varied, from The Rocky Horror
Picture Show to an Arlo Guthrie tribute. I loved his
mash up shows, and the top ten worst cover songs EVER!
(They were pretty bad.)
Recently, Elijah got a gig on the radio. His first
show was a 80s show.
I love 80’s music so I was all excited. Find him live
on The Boulder Sound on Saturday nights
9pm (MST). His music knowledge alone is worth the
listening time. Perhaps the best part is YOU can
request anything, and Elijah would most likely have
it.
Check this podcast out if you love music, and obscure
cuts at that.
‘Til next time!

Mc Sim

By Jon

Ever wonder how the McDonald’s corporation became a multi-billion dollar industry? Wish it were you?

This will link you to a flash game so you can do it all yourself. McGame.

Don’t let the initial look of the site fool you, this is not corporate propaganda that will try to to make you buy more Big Macs or anything like that. This game is meant to educate on how the corporation works behind the scenes. Foe example, how the company overcrowds fields in south america with cows, genetically engineered soy and other such novelties. As short as the game might be, having to deal with mad cow disease and irate employees was fun nonetheless.

Enjoy!

What? You want fries with that?

Suicide Blonde By Darcey Steinkey

Last week I was in Borders and I noticed it was
packed. So maybe that news story I read that said
noone reads was wrong. Personally I think a Friday
night in a bookstore with my date. Maybe with my
crochet, a little light yarn bondage makes for fine
first date fun.
Back again with another great book Suicide Blonde by
Darcey Steinkey of Jesus Saves fame. The Amazon.com
reviews of this book are rather lukewarm, you ethier
love this book or hate it. I one of the ones who loved
this book?
Why?
Because it’s written well and very frankly, Ms.
Steinkey tells it how it is she doesn’t write fluffy
characters whose sole goal is to fall in love. This is
the story of falling out of love and all the pain and
confusion that comes along with it. Except there’s a
big twist, 90’s style. Bell is Jesse’s boyfriend, who
happens to be bisexual, and pining for his first love
Kevin. So the question Jesse faces is : How do you
hold on to someone willfully slipping away?
The story is set in San Francisco a very gritty and
real look at how circumstances can effect even the
sanest people. This book strikes a cord with me
because I could identify with the confusion, which
throws Jesse from sitution to sitution each one
seemingly more sorrid than the last. The character
that I find most perplexing is Pig she is a secondary
character that sets the most bizzare seris of events
in action.
Madison is another enigma, just who is she? A junkie
prositute or a smart post modern business woman?
Books often can echo a person’s subconcious if this is
true, then wow I drew a lot of valuable knowledge from
this iluminating prose. This book may have it’s rough
spots, but I feel they don’t mar its beautiful yet
dirty city style writing
I fully give this book my approval and I sincerly hope
to Darcey Stienkey writes more in the future. Pick
this one up!

Mario Vs Doom

By Joe

I’ve seen a lot of mods in my time. This is amongst the absolute best that I’ve ever seen. Straight from Peru, Mario Doom.

(What makes this awesome, is Yoshi screaming as he dies. It’s almost sad, until Mario punches him in the face. Her in the face. What was Yoshi again?)
