It’s Coming… Free Comic Book Day!!

Hmm… methinks we need a comic book category…

Anyway, if you haven’t heard about it for the past 5 years, Free Comic Book Day is a wonderful event that happens every year. Basically, the first Saturday in May (which, un-coincidentally, has almost always ended up being the day/weekend after the release of a big Marvel blockbuster… the first one was after X-Men 1, the second after Spiderman… wait… X-Men 2, Spiderman 2… no, X-Men 3 came out later in the month…), you can go to any participating comic book store, and get free comics out of some special edition books that are available. It’s a really neat thing that happens each year, and if you didn’t already know about it, go check out the link.

The Future of DVD’s…update.

By Joe

Ok, so maybe I gave too much credit to the porn industry. What am I left with for an indicator to what the future will have? Evidently, it’s Walmart. The scary, scary corporation. What are they picking? HD DVD. Yup. Another one against Sony. How are they doing it? By contracting a really cheap (less than $300) player.

In an effort to try to push sales of their media, to pull people away from the series of tubes known as the internet, they’re viewing HD as the draw to get people into their doors. We shall see how this turns out, and whether or not I have to make another retraction.

Krazy Ken’s Outta Here!

By Joe

That’s right! As of June, Ken Kutaragi will no longer be under the employ of Sony!

From Wired

Ken Kutaragi, the man widely regarded as the father of the PlayStation, is stepping down from his role as Chairman and Group CEO of Sony as of June 19, 2007, Sony announced this morning.

I can’t believe how excited I am about this. Yet, dissapointed, mostly because we’re not going to have the endless swarm of asinine quotes.

It also seems strange that the reason that he’s leaving is that Sony no longer needs visionaries.

Wedbush Morgan Securities analyst Michael Pachter says that Kutaragi’s departure signals that Sony no longer needs “visionaries” to run the PlayStation business — it needs “operations” types.

Weirdness….

Glass Doll : Blissfully Dead

grrrrrrrrrr.JPG

Blissfully Dead is the first album by Glass Doll. Out
of New York City, Glass Doll has had some trouble
forming and has been in several stages of development
since 2005. The current line-up of lead singer Lillie
Charlotte, drummer J-Lo, and violinist Zed bring a
refreshing sound that blends the aesthetics of British
glam rock with the simplicity of early American punk.
This blend leaves a feel of arthouse rock mixed with
intense, dark lyrics and chocolate sprinkles.

Less is indeed more as this trio bring their music
that feels at home today as it would in the 80’s
alongside Julian Cope and Ian McCulloch with a
carnival feel. When asked for a comment, lead singer
Lillie Charlotte said, “It sounds that way because we
use a lot of 3/4 time.”

Wii love Wendy’s?!?

By Joe

thumb_wendys.JPG

Ok, I’m all for advertising, and spreading good gaming. But this is what’s coming up from Wendy’s for their kids meals. It’s a given that I have to get them, but I’m still trying to figure out why. Looks like a Mario spinner off of a wiimote, a wiimote marble shooter, an excitetruck, a baseball game, and boxes. Yay boxes!

It does make me wonder, though. McDonald’s has classically held the Nintendo toys (I still have my Koopa Paratrooper hopper) and they also have the DS Wifi connect in their stores. So, why exactly has Nintendo switched restaurants?

And why isn’t there a Wendy’s closer to here?

A Techie’s Response to Media Coverage

By Joe

April 16, 33 students were killed at Virginia Tech. Being one of the last people on earth without TV, it took a while for the news to actually get to me of what happened. It was a customer at work that told me. “Did you hear about the shooting?” Instantly my mind was going off, flashbacks of Columbine running through my head.

I paused for reflection, feeling sorrow for the families of those that were lost, and twangs of anger. Both at the shooter, and for the people that didn’t notice any of the signs of a problem. My inner journalist chimed in, telling me to do further research. That’s when I saw a name that inspires constant annoyance and tends to enrage me. That of a Florida lawyer, Jack Thompson.

Free pseudo-school!

By Joe

Want one of the best educations money can buy, without the cost? Ok, so you get no recognition for it, and no direct contact with the faculty, but MIT has put their courses online. For free! It’s everything that you’d get in class minus being in class, and the teacher. Personal edification FTW!

I SO NEED ONE!

By Gorf

http://www.flixxy.com/minority-report-interface.htm

This is one of the most awesome development’s in user interface technology I’ve ever seen. It’s just so, so smooth!

As said to a friend of mine that introduced me to this: “Can you imagine what you could do if you could play MMORPG’s with that?!?!”, he responded with “uh huh!!! That’s exactly what I was thinking!” and I came back with “Plus, with a set of goggles and location-sensing gloves, you could do the same thing as in Johnny Mnemonic!”

So, who’s going to help me buy one? *grin*

Wow…just wow.

This is just amazing.

Painstaking Level Design Vs. “Click”

By Joe

In my online browsing, I find a lot of things. This I came across recently. And it’s absolutely amazing. This, this is what the future of level design might be.

Just imagine it. A drawing, a picture, a really awkward doodle drawn in a drunken state of magnificent creativity on a napkin, scanned in and easily ported into a level for whatever game you’re working on. It’d be like What Dreams May Come, but way cooler.

A Heat Fix

So, I was visiting my dad’s house a week or two ago, and I go into his room to maybe play him a bit on his 360. He’d been recently moving things around, so I took a look at his set up, and was taken a bit by surprise by how he’d decided to fix a minor heat circulation problem.

Dad's bullets holding up his 360

Just hope dad’s heat problem isn’t too bad. Bullets and heat together is fantastic, just not so much something you want inside your house, or bedroom for that matter….
