With .Hack//G.U. Vol. 1 Rebirth, Bandai improves on the original series
Let’s start off with some basic game info:
Name: .Hack//G.U. Vol. 1 Rebirth, Genre: RPG, Publisher: Bandai, System: PS2
Everything that I really loved in the original .Hack series is still in the new one. The game has the ability to totally immerse you in a fake world and yet it feels like the story is talking directly to you. The original game did have its flaws though: a confusing interface, bad party customization, a poor command system, and the inability to use more than one weapon. You just had to got over them.
With the new series, the problems have been solved! There is no more need to get over a slow and confusing interface like in the original game. In .Hack//G.U., the story line is just as vivid as in the original, but it seems to pull you in even more than the first one ever did.
Personally, some of the things I find attractive about the game are how the graphics were redone. They completely re-designed the interface, and added the ability to use more than one weapon. Though, any game as complicated as this one takes a while to get used to. The improved interface provided in the “G.U.” series is much superior to the old one. Being able to customize your own and your party members items is now much easier. Additionally, you can edit and control which weapon each member of your team has equipped.
One of the most important aspects of any RPG, is the story line. So let’s get to it, shall we? The basic story line is as follows: The CC Corporation redesigned the game, after players started falling into comas while playing their original game, an MMO, called “The World.” Now in G.U., this new game is still called “The World,” although they added a little “version 2.0,” at the end, just so, you know, it’s different. When you log in for the first time, you enter a training level, and your character’s name as “Haseo.” Getting PK’ed (Player Killed) shortly after signing in, you watch a couple videos (ed. note: a lot of videos), thereafter you become the famous PKK (Player Killer Killer) “Terror of Death.” Your main mission is to find “Tri-Edge”, a famous PK’er that puts players into comas when he defeats them. Eventually you find him, and guess what; he looks exactly like your character from the original game… creepy huh?
.Hack//G.U. is at least three times more of a game than the original was. With more options, better graphics, a greater interface, more believable news and a better desktop for your computer, you can better immerse yourself into the game.
