Serenity: Special Edition
You know how when studios release “special editions” of already released movies, you always groan and wonder how anyone would buy something they already have? Yeah, me too.
Then I heard about Serenity: Special Edition.
Apparently, the 2-disc set (which hits streets August 21st), has only one brand-new extra (a commentary with Joss and some members of the cast), but a bunch of extras that were only available on the international releases and special editions.
The following is the list of extras on the special edition (that I’ve found):
- Audio commentary with writer/director Joss Whedon
- Audiocommentary with Whedon and actors Nathan Fillion, Adam Baldwin, Summer Glau, and Ron Glass
- Joss Whedon introduction
- Deleted scenes with optional Whedon words
- Extended Scenes
- Outtakes
- Featurettes:
- “Take a Walk on Serenity”
- “Green Clan”
- “We’ll have a Fruity Oaty Good Time” ((apparently this is an Easter Egg in the original release))
- “A Filmmaker’s Journey”
- “Future History: The Story of Earth That Was”
- “Re-lighting the Firefly”
- “What’s in a Firefly?”
- “Session 416″
There’s also talk of something called the “Tam Session,” which is apparently a short film about River and Simon. Dunno.
Anyway, I’ve included the cover art for your perusal, and I for one can’t wait for it to come out.

To clarify: “Session 415″ is also known as “the River Tam Sessions” (or simply “the R. Tam Sessions”). There is no “Tam Session” involving River and Simon, only “Session 416″ depicting River at the Academy.
Argh. Typo. “415″ should read “416″.
