And this week’s Pick of the Week… It was gonna be Darkwing Duck, for the natsukashii (that would be “nostalgia”)… but I have to go with When they Cry - Higurashi DVD 2. Higurashi (or, as the Japanese title reads, Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni, and yes, the red is part of the title) is a great Horror/murder/mystery series. DVD 2 covers episodes 6-10 (Watanagashi Chapter parts 2-4, and Tatari Koroshi Chapter parts 1-2). Now, the interesting thing with Higurashi is that each story arc (or chapter) resets the story. So DVD 1’s Onikakushi (”Demoning Away”) Chapter parts 1-4 are almost completely unrelated from episode 5, which is part 1 of the Watanagashi (”Cotton Drifting”) Chapter. Likewise, Tatari Koroshi (”Curse Killing”) Chapter is a new storyarc. As is Himatsubushi (”Killing Time”) Chapter, which comes on DVD 3. But the main story throughout all the… scenarios, is that in the small village of Hinamizawa, in the June of 1983, weird things happen around recent transfer student Keiichi Maebara. You see, it’s almost time for the annual Watanagashi Festival. But for the past 5 years, the festival has been marred with tragedy. One person has been murdered, and another has disappeared. What will happen at this year’s festival? (well, it depends on the Chapter you’re in, doesn’t it?)
