Geek vs Life

So tonight was the Sakura-Con staff Halloween party. And Bressler (who, btw, was one of the testers for Fable II and says everyone needs to go out and buy it) brought Rock Band 2. And you know what song is on Rock Band 2? Still Alive. You know, the one from Portal? It even says in the song that it’s by “GLADoS” (or however it’s capitalized) and the word “GLAD” is always all-caps in the lyrics. And, of course, being a room full of otaku, pretty much everyone was singing along.

Meant to be? Dunno, you decide. But just for you, check out the Mario Paint Composer version of the song that someone made here.

More of a demonstration of Wii capabilities than game. Makes lots of noise, and would be an awesome game to play with small children.

Not enough time to actually play. Xbox skipped the tutorial. Looks fun, and would keep playing if given the opportunity.

Steeper learning curve, but fun. Jarring voice overs. Want to keep playing.

Incidently this is the current review team. Carrie (middle, very casual gamer) is playing.

Braid - Art is very quarky. Contols were easy shallow learning curve. 2/3rds of us want to keep playing.

Bioshock - Looks interesting characters are engaging. Creepy and I want to keep playing.

Folklore - Odd learning curve looks interesting. Very pretty good beginning story. Mysterious.

The Comic Book Legal Defense Fund has signed on as consultant to the defense of Christopher Handley, an Iowa collector who faces up to 20 years in prison for possession of manga that he ordered from Japan. The CBLDF will add its First Amendment expertise to the case, which is being managed by the United Defense Group’s Eric Chase, and the CBLDF will also be providing monetary support towards obtaining expert witnesses.

Handley, who is 38 years old, faces penalties under the PROTECT Act for allegedly possessing manga that the government claims is obscene because the books include what the government claims are depictions of minors engaged in sex acts (no photographs are involved).
