Had to share this

Saw this on subeta, and had to share this with everyone:

Man... talk about bad timing...
Man… talk about bad timing…

For those of you who can’t read it, the text is as follows:

“THE first divorce directly related to the September 11th terrorist attacks has been filed in New York. It appears a guy with an office on the 103rd floor of the World Trade Centre spent the morning at his girlfriend’s apartment with his phone turned off. He wasn’t watching TV either. When he turned his phone back on at about 11am, it rang immediately. It was his hysterical wife, “Are you OK? Where are you?” He said, “What do you mean? I’m in my office of course!”

Muses from med abuses

I’ve been pondering a few things (some of them while starving myself for 5 days due to a parasite of some sort).

Let’s try a discussion here:

-No surprise here, Casual games are geared towards a largely growing  market of middle aged women with possibly too much time on their hands. I’m not trying to say it like it’s a bad thing though. My concern is that the companies are making the games TOO CAT FRIENDLY. If I were to leave my laptop on with Bioshock running, my cat would stay the fuck away. The pretty landscapes and southing Jazz of Bejeweled 2 seems akin to catnip. Discuss.

To pass the time between ’spresso shots

Saw this over on Kotaku. Thought the GVL Java Crew might enjoy it.

Ahh hah hah hah ha! Soon, I will RULE THE WORLD!

By Joe

Teaser from Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog on Vimeo.
Ok, so those are really really long term plans. But, for the time being I can live vicariously through things like Soon I Will Be Invincible, and new GVL favorite, Joss Whedon’s internet musical, Dr. Horrible’s Sing-A-Long Blog. We haven’t watched anything this entertaining since the musical episode of Buffy the Vampire slayer…go figure.

Neil Patrick Harris portrays the part Dr. Horrible, who holds a Ph.D. in horribleness, who’s attempts to both rule the world and win the heart of a fellow laundromat patron are continually thwarted by Captain Hammer. The role of Captain Hammer, the brash insensitive prick of a superhero, is played by Nathan Fillion, who fills the part very well. And the last of the main characters is Penny, played by Filicia Day, who’s sweet demeanor and quiet hope balance out the cast.

Why am I doing this?

By Jon

Because you can never have too much Vestibules in your diet. THAT’S why.

JStar

I know some of you are rolling your eyes and thinking Jefferee Star? Who’s Lo kidding? But music, like video games, can’t all be serious. Sometimes you have to shake it up and just push play.

That’s exactly what you should do with Plastic Surgery Slumber Party. I like music that doesn’t take itself too seriously. That’s not to say I don’t like music that’s not serious. The problem I have is way too many artists take themselves far too serious when they shouldn’t.

“Plastic Surgery Slumber Party” is an amazingly sarcastic yet oddly delightful song. It’s easy to dance to and full of bitch goddess sass. It’s easy to see why Jefferee chose this to name the whole Ep with.

Not so Happy 4th

I just returned home tonight, on the Fourth of July, from my local fireworks show in downtown Edmonds. I have to say, I’m not very impressed. Yes, some things are personal preference, such as the change in bands from the band they’ve had every year since I remember, but others…

How about the cops doing flagging flagging everyone DEEPER into downtown when you’re trying to leave? And ignoring the people right down the street illegally lighting off fireworks (fireworks of any kind are illegal in Edmonds. Apparently, even those little party poppers bottle thingies are). Oh, and let’s not even mention the fireworks from the show running across the ground into the crowd, and no emergency response in sight. Oh, they went out, of course, since the screams of terror didn’t last long.

I most likely won’t be returning.

The return of jPod?

By Jon

I must admit, I’m probably biased. I’ve been reading Douglas Coupland books for years now. I read Microserfs in three days while stranded in Mexico. I remember intentionally bring jPod with me the next time I went because I remember the fun I had the last time. Some books are just meant to pass around. For me, jPod was one of them.

jPod is about a group of coworkers that have been assigned together because of the first letter of their last name, “J”. The book focuses on their adventures working for a game developer somewhere in the Vancouver Canada area (if you’re think EA Games, you’re probably right.) The book takes a few left turns and bring in a great supporting cast. The weed-grow op owning mother, the cougar chasing brother and the “extra” actor father. There’s a trip to China. An encounter With Douglas Coupland himself and so much more.

Don’t Forget Your Towels!

Maybe all those “normal” people might not realize it, tomorrow (May 25) marks the date of three important holidays for us:

Universal Day of the Jedi
Geek/Nerd Pride Day

and, of course

Towel Day

The first two, of course, picked the date because of May 25, 1977, the release of the original Star Wars movie.

The latter picked it’s date, because it was 2 weeks after the death of Douglas Adams, author of the wondrous series “Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy”. However, here’s a bit of fun trivia:

Open up your computer’s calculator and set it to View > Scientific. Then set it to Hex. Add together the numerical date of Towel Day (5+25). Then switch it back to Decimal mode. ^-^

Whichever day you’re celebrating, have fun, and don’t forget your towel!

The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian

Well, this is my first time writing a movie review, so bear with me. ^-^ (or wait, did I do one for Harry Potter? Don’t remember. It’s still my first for a movie that hasn’t yet been released…)

Anyway, I got a chance to attend the advance screening of The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian down at Pacific Place theater last night, and man was it awesome. I do consider myself a fan of the books, although, truthfully, I can only remember a definite reading of three of the seven books in the series (The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe, Voyage of the Dawn Traeder, and The Magician’s Nephew). I do have some vague memories of watching at least part of the BBC rendition of Prince Caspian, but that far back and in elementary school is too long ago for me to remember clearly.

Super Mario World hands-free custom level: The Musical

By Jon

Awesome custom made video that requires no effort on the users part. Just, sit, watch and enjoy the show. Beautiful simply beautiful what some people with too much free time can end up doing. How many hours did it take do do this 11 minute video? Only the creator know, but dammit it was worth it.

Added bonus question: Can you identify all the mystery songs represented?

The Donnas: Spend the Night

In honor of The Donnas’ 15th year anniversary (May 9th), here’s a review of Spend the Night, my favorite Donnas album, released in 2007.

It was The Donnas 5th album and featured “Take It Off,” the major hit on this lovely sex hungry romp. Often compared to the Ramones, The Donnas pull it off with a sassy feminine grace. They come on strong and don’t back down with “Dirty Denim” and “Who Invited You”.

These might just be the girls your mother warned you about.

Why? These boy hungry girls party hard. Just listen to “Pass it Around”. They also play hard and loud, not just for girls but better than anyone on the scene today.

But don’t just take my word for it. Go spend the night with The Donnas.

The Donna’s official website.

Realism should only go so far.

This is…really kinda weird. Yup. I’d rather think that Pokemon are born the ether and shed into existence by a blissfully ignorant universe, as opposed to actually being born and nursing.

Check out the rest of his work!

So you’re a wino, a gamer, love remote control cars, and have nowhere to recycle your old bottles? Take a hint from this kid. The original Super Mario theme on wine bottles. It sounds awesome.

Thank you, Boing Boing
